Our Teachers are Kids at Heart!

Our fun and loving staff members know how to play! We enjoy getting down on the floor with your children and becoming a part of their play experience. We feel it's important to not lead children's play, but rather allow them to guide us through their thought processes. Learning at our school is play-based. This means that we believe children learn about the world through playing in both imaginative and concrete ways. Some examples include singing songs, creating unique art pieces, and pretending and acting in the dramatic play room. Every room offers many activity choices to fully stimulate our children's young minds!

  Infant and Toddler Teachers

We have two Infant Teachers, Irene Watts and Elsie Luckhardt. Elsie is a retired School Teacher and has been part of our school since 2001. She has a heart of gold. Irene is the other Infant Teacher. She graduated from the University of Michigan and has worked for seven years here at Play and Learn. Irene and her husband just had their first child in March. Alicia Maynard (our Kindergarten Teacher) will be taking over the Baby Room until Irene returns from her maternity leave in June. Alicia joined Play and Learn in September 2007 and will return to her Kindergarten class and first-graders for the summer program. I know that the babies will be sad to see her leave. Alicia graduated from E.M.U. with her degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education.

Our two Toddler Teachers include Tia Garcia and Adam Kinasz. Tia graduated from E.M.U. with a degree in predance therapy which comes in handy with this active age group. She has since returned to school and is pursuing her Masters in Special Education. Adam has been with us since 2001 and has graduated from Eastern Michigan with his degree in Elementary Education. In the summer time, Adam will lead the Varsity School Kids (grade 2-5) during the Summer Camp program.

Just hanging out!!

  Preschool Teachers

Laura Nola is not only the Owner and Director of our school, but she is also one of the Preschool Teachers! She's been in the childcare business for over 14 years and is a fun and loving teacher (and boss!). Laura teaches our 3 to 4-year old class. She graduated from Madonna University with a degree in Early Elementary Education.

Stacey Griffiths is one of the Preschool Teachers, and she's been with our school since 2004. She teaches our Pre-Kindergarten kids and works hard to make sure that they're all set for Kindergarten in the fall! Stacey graduated from E.M.U. with an undergraduate degree in Special Education and Early Childhood. She's currently working on her Master's degree at Eastern in Speech and Language Special Education.

Pam Tighe is another Preschool Teacher who's been with us since 2001. She teaches our 2 1/2 to 3-year old class. Pam previously owned her own  home daycare businesses for over 15 years! Pam attends several classes throughout the year that are offered through Childcare Network and The National Association for the Education of Young Children. She wants to be sure that the kids in our program are benefiting from the best teaching methods within the Early Childhood field.

Nikki Lasure is also a Preschool Teacher who started working with us in 2006 and is currently pursuing her degree in Elementary Education at Baker College. Nikki is currently our fill-in teacher who can adapt to any classroom she's needed in!

Some outside water fun!
  School-Age Teachers

Adam is one of our School-Age Summer Program teachers. Adam graduted from E.M.U. with his degree in Elementary Education. Helping with the school kids is Sara Girbach, Pam's daughter. Sarah is about to graduate from Saline High School and is awesome with all the children! She'll be attending Michigan State University in the fall.
